Aces rally for series-opening win

May 30, 2015

RENO - A late rally catapulted the Reno Aces (@Aces) past the visiting New Orleans Zephyrs for a series-opening 4-2 win in front of 7,072 fans at Aces Ballpark Friday night.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh, right-fielder Todd Glaesmann (@toddglaesmann22) belted a game-tying two-run home run to give the Aces late life.

The blast by Glaesmann came after shortstop Danny Worth's double down the left-field line put a runner in scoring position.

After the long ball, Trayvon Robinson hit a bouncer to the right side that second baseman Reid Brignac bobbled. Robinson reached on the error and was quickly on the move when Mike Freeman (@MikeBFree5) hit a line to left-field.

The ball got past left-fielder Jordany Valdespin and rolled all the way to the wall. Robinson raced around from first to score the go-ahead run and give Reno a 3-2 lead. Freeman reached third on the single and two-base error.

Aces starter Robbie Ray (@RobbieRay) turned in a solid outing on the bump, keeping the Aces in the game. The southpaw allowed two runs on four hits in seven innings. Ray issued three walks and struck out nine in the win.

A trio of Aces relievers - Evan Marshall (@emarsh31), Dan Runzler and Kaleb Fleck (@k_fleck) - worked through the eighth to preserve the 3-2 lead.

Reno got an insurance run in the home half of the eighth when Peter O'Brien launched a solo blast to deep left-center. The round-tripper was O'Brien's 12th of the season and gave the Aces a 4-2 lead.

Reliever Kevin Munson (@GOTMUNEY) was summoned for the ninth and worked around a two-out walk to nail down the win. Munson picked up his first save of the year, and Ray earned his second win.

Game two of the four-game series is set for Saturday night at Aces Ballpark. Right-hander Gabriel Arias (2-0, 2.81) gets the ball for the Aces against left-hander Pat Misch (3-4, 3.31) for the Zephyrs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
