Arias, Ransom set tone in game one win

June 27, 2015

RENO - The Reno Aces (@Aces) busted out the bats and got a brilliant pitching performance in an 8-0 win over the Fresno Grizzlies in game one of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Aces Ballpark.

Right-hander Gabriel Arias threw the fifth complete-game shutout in team history. He scattered five hits and issued two walks and struck out one batter. With the win, Arias improved his record to 4-1 on the season.

Scoring started in the second inning when Reno put together four runs on four hits. Mike Freeman (@MikeBFree5) started the inning with a double and moved to third on a base hit to right-field by Garrett Weber (@_weber5). Freeman trotted home on Blake Lalli's (@BlakeLalli) RBI single to give Reno a 1-0 lead.

Shortly after the base hit from Lalli, shortstop Cody Ransom (@ransom_cody) blasted a three-run homer off the scoreboard in left-field to give the Aces a 4-0 edge.

The third inning brought more of the same for the Aces. Three runs on three hits put the Aces in front, 7-0. Weber's second hit of the day, a two-run triple to the gap in right-center, scored Freeman and Peter O'Brien to make it 6-0.

Lalli's second hit of the day was an RBI double over the head of left-fielder Robbie Grossman to give Reno a comfortable 7-0 lead.

Arias faced more than one baserunner in a single inning just one time. It came in the first when he allowed a one-out double, and then a two-out walk. He struck out L.J. Hoes to get out of the small jam.

Game two of the doubleheader is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. start tonight. Left-hander Justin Marks (4-6, 5.68) starts for the Aces against right-hander Dan Straily (6-5, 4.14) for the Grizzlies.
