Isotopes walk-off Aces in stunner

July 3, 2015

ALBUQUERQUE - Cristhian Adames' walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning capped a late comeback for the Albuquerque Isotopes in a 4-3 win over the Reno Aces (@Aces) Thursday night at Isotopes Park.

The back-and-forth contest was tight all the way to the final pitch when Adames lifted a 0-1 offering from Aces' right-hander Addison Reed over the right-field wall to supply the game-winner.

Trailing 2-0, Jamie Romak cut the deficit in half in the third inning with a triple to right-center, scoring Garrett Weber (@_weber5) who started the frame with a double.

It remained 2-1 through the middle innings as starters Justin Marks and Jon Gray settled in. Marks tossed 5 2/3 innings for the Aces (37-44) in a no-decision. Gray didn't factor into the decision either after he allowed three runs and struck out nine in six innings.

Back-to-back extra-base hits and a wild pitch put the Aces in front in the sixth inning. With one out, Todd Glaesmann (@toddglaesmann22) doubled to right-center and Cody Ransom (@ransom_cody) tripled to even the game at 2-2. Ransom left the game with an injury on his slide into third base.

Raul Navarro replaced Ransom at third and scored the go-ahead run moments later when Gray uncorked a wild pitch.

Reliever J.C. Ramirez kept the game at 3-2 when he got out of consecutive jams. He stranded a runner at third base in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings.

The trend was snapped in the eighth when Kyle Parker started the home half with a triple to left-center off the top of the wall. Ramirez got two outs in the inning but a pair of walks loaded the bases for Roger Bernadina.

Reno turned to Reed to face Bernadina who hit a ground ball to first baseman Nick Evans. Evans flipped the ball to Reed who was late covering first base, allowing Parker to score and tie the game at 3-3.

The Aces went quietly in the ninth despite a lead-off infield single from Nick Buss (@chilibuss), setting the stage for Adames' heroics in the bottom of the ninth.

Weber led the charge offensively with a pair of doubles and a run scored on a 3-for-4 night. Glaesmann added a pair of hits in the loss.

The series finale is scheduled for Friday night in Albuquerque. Right-hander Aaron Blair (2-1, 4.86) starts for the Aces against right-hander Eddie Butler (1-2, 7.65) for the Isotopes. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. PST.

The Aces return home for a nine-game homestand set to begin on Saturday, July 4. Group outings are on-sale now at www.RenoAces.com or by calling (775) 334-4700. For up-to-date news and notes throughout the season, follow the club on Twitter (@aces) or like the team on Facebook
