Bees power past Aces in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY - In a game that featured a 22-minute power failure delay, the Salt Lake Bees used 13 hits to down the Reno Aces (@Aces), 6-5, on Friday night at Smith's Ballpark.

It was Reno that started the game with a couple of runs out of the gate. Three consecutive singles from Nick Buss (@chilibuss), Brandon Drury and Danny Dorn gave the Aces an immediate 1-0 lead in the first inning.

After Nick Evans bounced into a double play, Todd Glaesmann (@toddglaesmann22) just missed a two-run homer when he drilled a pitch from Drew Rucinski high off the wall in left-center to plate Drury with the second run of the night.

The Bees put runners on the bases in the first two innings but Gabriel Arias escaped damage in both frames. The same wouldn't be said about the third. Salt Lake sent ten to the plate and scored five runs to open a 5-2 lead.

Run-scoring hits came from Roger Kieschnick and Kaleb Cowart, and Kyle Kubitza blasted a two-run home run. Buss committed a fielding error on a Kieschnick's hit, allowing another run to score.

Arias was lifted after just 2 2/3 innings in favor of Seth Simmons (@SizzleSimmons95) who got Ryan Yarbrough to fly out with a pair of runners on to prevent more damage.

Simmons threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings, keeping the Aces in the game. Salt Lake catcher Jett Bandy clubbed a two-out run-scoring double in the seventh to give the Bees a 6-2 lead.

The Aces rallied with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth. With one out, Drury doubled to the gap in right-center, and Dorn followed with a two-run homer to right-field to pull the Aces within a pair of runs at 6-4. It's Dorn's third homer in his last four games and his 27^th multi-hit game in 47 games played with Reno in 2015.

Another rally was sparked in the top of the ninth when Peter O'Brien reached on a fielding error by Salt Lake shortstop Ryan Jackson. Trailing 6-4, Garrett Weber (@_weber5) drew a walk to put the tying run on base. A sacrifice bunt by Blake Lalli (@BlakeLalli) moved O'Brien to third and Weber to second.

Danny Worth cut the deficit to 6-5 with a sacrifice fly to deep left-field. Salt Lake summoned left-hander Edgar Ibarra to face Buss with two outs, but Phil Nevin countered with pinch-hitter Jamie Romak.

Ibarra went to a full-count against Romak and struck him out to end the game, thwarting the Aces' rally.

Dorn was 2-for-3 with 3 RBI, and Drury went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Arias was tagged with the loss and Rucinski got the win for Salt Lake.

Game three of the four-game series is set for Saturday night in Salt Lake City. Right-hander Jhoulys Chacin (2-2, 2.81) starts for the Aces against left-hander Adam Wilk (3-7, 5.80) for the Bees. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PST.

Following the brief four-game trip to Salt Lake City, the Aces return home for a 11-game, 12-day homestand scheduled to begin Monday, July 20 against Albuquerque.
