Round Rock walks off to take opener

May 27, 2016

ROUND ROCK - The Reno Aces dropped the opening game of a four-game series to the Round Rock Express on Friday night by a 3-2 score at Dell Diamond. Right fielder Ryan Strausborger hit a walk-off single for the Express to conclude the game after Reno rallied from a two-run deficit to tie the game in the ninth.

Reno right-hander Kyle Drabek (@kyledrabek4) matched zeroes with Round Rock lefty Michael Roth for five innings, getting help from his defense as Carlos Rivero (@Carlos_Rivero3) and Sócrates Brito (@SocratesBrito) both threw runners out at the plate.

The Express (26-21) broke through with a pair of runs in the sixth. Catcher Brett Nicholas hit a one-out RBI single to left for the game's first run, and then Drew Robinson lined a run-scoring base hit to right with two outs and the bases loaded. Round Rock's Pedro Ciriaco attempted to score on the play, but Brito threw him out for his second assist of the night to keep the score 2-0.

Reno (23-24) got a run back in the seventh as Ed Lucas (@ELuke21) launched a solo home run to left with one out. The dinger was his second in three games and fifth overall this season. The Aces tied the game in the ninth as Jack Reinheimer (@Reinheimer_08) and Kyle Jensen laced back-to-back doubles to start the frame.

Doug Bernier singled off Adam Loewen to lead off the home half for Round Rock, advancing to third on a pair of walks before Strausborger's game-winning hit with two outs against Enrique Burgos.

Lucas had two hits to mark his second multi-hit contest in eight games with the Aces, while Jensen drove in a run for the third consecutive game. Drabek did not factor in the decision after he allowed two earned runs on 10 hits over seven innings with one walk and six strikeouts. Loewen (1-2) took the loss, giving up one earned run on one hit with three walks in 1 1/3 innings. Andrew Faulkner (3-0) earned the win for Round Rock.

The Aces and Express continue their four-game series with Game 2 on Saturday, when first pitch is slated for 5:05 p.m. PT. Reno will send right-hander Braden Shipley (3-2, 2.98) to the mound, opposite Express righty Kyle Lohse (2-0, 3.97).
