RubberDuck Brayan Rocchio named Double-A Northeast Player of the Week

(AKRON, OHIO) September 13, 2021 – Akron RubberDucks infielder Brayan Rocchio has been named the Double-A Northeast MiLB Player of the Week for Week 19, Sept. 6-12.

Rocchio recorded a hit in all six games during Akron’s series in Richmond, going 10-for-27 with two doubles, two triples and three RBI while scoring five runs to help the RubberDucks to a series split with the Flying Squirrels.

A 2017 international signee by the Cleveland Indians ranked as the club’s No. 7 prospect by MLB.com, Rocchio is batting .291 with six home runs, 11 doubles, four triples and 28 RBI in 38 games since being promoted to Akron on July 30. Since his first Double-A game July 31, the Caracas, Venezuela, native leads the league in hits (46), extra-base hits (21), total bases (83), runs (29) and triples (four), and is tied for the league lead in RBI (28).

Between High-A Lake County and Double-A Akron, the 20-year-old Rocchio has scored 74 runs this season, leading Cleveland’s minor league system. He also ranks second in hits (114), extra-base hits (44), and total bases (193), to Oscar González, who was promoted from Akron July 6. Rocchio’s 15 total home runs are tied for sixth, his 61 RBI are third, and his 19 stolen bases are tied for second in the system.
