Summary
The Bowie Baysox’s sixth inning two-run home run proved too much as the Akron RubberDucks fall 3-1 on Saturday night at Canal Park despite striking out 11 Baysox batters.
Turning Point
With Bowie already on top 1-0 entering the sixth inning, the Baysox looked for more. Cesar Prieto worked a walk to open the frame before TT Bowens celebrated his birthday by launching a two-run home run to make it 3-0 Bowie.
Mound Presence
Tanner Burns was dealing for most of his start for the RubberDucks. The right-hander struck out four and allowed just one run through the first five innings. After Bowens’ homer in the sixth, Burns struck out Donta’ Williams to end his night. Zach Hart tossed an inning and two-thirds scoreless in relief of Burns while striking out three. Trey Benton and Davis Sharpe each worked scoreless innings.
Duck Tales
Akron broke up the shutout in the bottom of the ninth. Juan Brito worked a one-out walk before coming home to score on Joe Naranjo’s RBI double to cut the Bowie lead to 3-1. A pop out and a flyout would end the RubberDucks late comeback attempt as Akron went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.
