ASHEVILLE, NC - The Asheville Tourists started a win streak on Thursday night at McCormick Field with their third victory in a row over the Winston-Salem Dash in a 2-0 finish.
The Tourists (25-29) have allowed just eight runs through the first four games of June. Earning its fourth shutout of the year tonight, Asheville struck out 10 Dash (18-36) batters, allowing just five hits on the night.
Brett Gillis (W, 3-1) continues to impress at the High-A level. He went five scoreless innings in a start tonight and has a 2.45 ERA on the season.
Facing 10 batters in three innings, Julio Rodriguez dominated on the bump, fanning three and allowing just one walk. Shutting down the ninth, Amilcar Chirinos (Sv, 4) struck out two and stranded the tying run on first.
A walk broke the ice in the third inning, when Alejandro Nunez scored Drew Vogel and picked up an RBI. In the sixth, Vogel laced his second double of the game off the right field wall to plate the final run of the affair.
Asheville has a chance to win four games in a row for the first time this year. They still have an outside chance of chasing down the top seed in the South Atlantic League South Division as the first half of the year nears its end, although first-place Bowling Green won its third game in a row tonight.
Battling in front of a sold-out crowd, the Tourists will take the field as the Snot Otters tomorrow against the Dash with a 6:35 p.m. ET first pitch.
