Norfolk, VA -- Ryan Brett doubled in Durham's two runs in the second inning, aiding Yonny Chirinos to his league-tying ninth win as the Bulls edged Norfolk 2-1 at Harbor Park on Thursday night.
With two outs and none on, Jake Hager singled, followed by a walk to Alec Sole. Brett ripped a two-run double inside third base to hand Durham (56-34) a 2-0 advantage.
Norfolk scored a run in the bottom of the second against Chirinos (W, 9-3) on a single by Luis Sardiñas, but Chirinos shut down the Tides (37-54) the rest of his five-inning outing. 
Michael Roth, Ryne Stanek and José Alvarado (S, 1) fired four scoreless innings.
Kean Wong paced the Bulls' offense with three hits, including a pair of doubles and a bunt single.
Austin Pruitt (0-0, 1.15) opposes Norfolk's Jayson Aquino (2-7, 4.46) Friday night at 7:05 PM ET.
