Tony the Peanut Man Night Tabbed for June 4
CHARLESTON, S.C. - As Charleston's self-proclaimed Ambassador of Goodwill and Goobers, Tony the Peanut Man has devoted his life to the perfection of the peanut. In return, the Charleston RiverDogs will recognize the Riley Park fixture with a night in his honor.
Tony the Peanut Man Night will take place on Saturday, June 4, at 7:05 p.m., as the RiverDogs entertain the Rome Braves in the finale of a four-game series.
Fans will be treated to special pregame and in-game promotions featuring the 58-year old Peanut Man, who also plans to unveil a special new superhero costume for the event. Tony will also hand out all varieties of his peanuts, from the classic shelled and boiled nuts to the less conventional Cajun and fried flavors.
The success of last year's Peanut Man Comic Book has also spurred Tony to add a new dimension to his lucrative business, which has made him a staple of downtown Charleston and enabled him to sell his products in many supermarkets.
Titled "The Peanut Man Experience," Tony will bring his song-and-dance act to local birthday parties, weddings, and other events.
"What he brings is levity, what he brings is fun," said local businessman Eddie Tudor, who is assisting The Peanut Man with his new venture.
Known to all as Tony the Peanut Man, Anthony Wright began selling the finest, locally grown, good ol' U.S. of A. Goobers on the Market in 1990 after a chance encounter with Marion Heyward. Tony was unemployed at the time, and the meeting has transformed his own life and added even more flare to the Holy City.
