CHARLESTON, SC – The Charleston RiverDogs have selected five standouts as the 2025 finalists for the team’s annual “Top Dog” award. The award winner will be determined by a fan vote. Voting is open at this link, now through Sunday, August 17, and the winner will be announced during the team’s final homestand. The five finalists are listed below in alphabetical order:

#15 – RHP Ryan Andrade

Ryan Andrade’s first professional season has been one to remember. The Rays 7th round draft pick in the 2024 draft has been efficient and effective, hurling seven quality starts as of July 25 – tied for the most in Single-A with teammate Jose Urbina. Eight of his 15 starts have lasted six innings or more. Andrade is all over the Carolina League leaderboards, ranking top five in ERA, WHIP, innings pitched and opponent batting average.

#5 – OF Theo Gillen

After being selected by the Rays with the 18th overall pick in the 2024 draft, Theo Gillen has looked the part of a top-100 MLB Prospect. Gillen hit the ground running with Charleston after joining the team on April 27 off the injured list. The Austin, Texas native reached base in his first 43 games of the season – marking the longest on-base streak by a RiverDog since 2012. As of July 25, Gillen ranks top 10 in the Carolina League in on-base percentage, OPS, batting average and walks. Gillen is the Rays’ No. 2 prospect and baseball’s No. 61 prospect according to MLB Pipeline.

#21 – RHP Trevor Harrison

Following a promising RiverDogs debut in the second half last season, Trevor Harrison has turned things up a notch in his second season with Charleston. With a high-octane fastball and increasingly effective changeup and slider, Harrison has pitched his way into top-10 in the Carolina League in ERA, WHIP and opponent batting average as of July 25. The 19-year old’s best start came on June 25 against Lynchburg, as he carried a no-hitter through six innings while striking out eight to earn the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week award. Harrison is the Rays No. 8 prospect according to MLB Pipeline.

#26 – OF Angel Mateo

Angel Mateo is in the midst of a breakout season in his second full campaign with the RiverDogs. As of July 25, the native of San Juan de la Maguana, Dominican Republic leads the Carolina League in RBIs and ranks top-10 in batting average and slugging percentage. Mateo’s 60 RBI campaign is just the sixth by a RiverDog since 2021. The 20-year old was named the Carolina League player of the month for June after hitting .349 with a .945 OPS in 23 games.

#29 – RHP Jose Urbina

Jose Urbina has led the way for Charleston’s strong starting rotation in 2025. At just 19-years old, Urbina has taken the Carolina League by storm, leading the league in ERA as of July 25. Utilizing a high-90s fastball, Urbina also ranks top five in strikeouts, WHIP and opponent batting average. The native of Caracas, Venezuela strung together 27 consecutive scoreless innings from June 14 to July 24. Urbina is the Rays No. 18 prospect according to MLB Pipeline.
