(ALLENTOWN, PA) – The Charlotte Knights dropped game three of the six-game series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs by a score of 7-6 on Thursday night from Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA. In the top of the ninth inning, the Knights brought the tying run to second base with no outs. Unfortunately, the Knights were unable to push across a run.

Thursday’s loss snapped Charlotte’s two-game winning streak. Despite the loss, the Knights have still won eight of their last 12 games.

Once again, the Knights received a solid offensive showing from second baseman Lenyn Sosa. On Tuesday, Sosa homered twice in his return from the Chicago White Sox. In Thursday’s game, he once again used the long ball to help the Knights. In fact, his three-run blast in the seventh inning of Thursday’s game gave the Knights a 6-3 lead. For Sosa, the home run was his third in three games and fourth of the season with Charlotte.

With the Knights now ahead by a score of 6-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the IronPigs fought back to tie the game at 6-6. Lehigh Valley first baseman Darrick Hall hit a three-run, game-tying home run in the bottom of the seventh inning off RHP Chad Kuhl (0-1, 5.59). One inning later, Kuhl allowed a go-ahead, RBI single to Nick Podkul, which gave the ‘Pigs a 7-6 lead. In all, Kuhl allowed six runs on five hits over 3.1 innings pitched and was saddled with the loss.

Charlotte third baseman Angelo Castellano hit his first home run of the season, a solo home run in the third inning. Both Sosa and Castellano had two hits in the game, including a home run apiece.

RHP Mike Clevinger was added to Charlotte’s roster before the game and made his season debut on the mound. Clevinger started and allowed just one run on four hits over 3.1 innings pitched. He threw 60 pitches (35 for strikes).

The Knights will continue the six-game road series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies) on Friday night from Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA. The “Voice of the Charlotte Knights” Matt Swierad will have the call on www.CharlotteKnights.com beginning at 7:00 p.m. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. on Friday.
