(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) – Third baseman Jake Burger launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Charlotte Knights dropped the opening game of the six-game series against the Durham Bulls by a score of 6-2 on Tuesday night from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte.

Overall for the Knights on Tuesday, the team managed eight hits in the opener. The home run by Burger broke up Durham’s shutout effort in the ninth. Burger’s home run was his 17th of the season with the Knights. First baseman Yermín Mercedes and shortstop Danny Mendick chipped in with two hits apiece on Tuesday.

The Bulls scored three runs over the first two innings on Tuesday and added two more runs in the sixth inning thanks to a two-run home run by catcher Brett Sullivan in the sixth. Sullivan led the way with three RBIs.
