Knights Finish Road Trip, Return Home Tuesday

The Charlotte Knights completed a six-game road trip in Durham, NC against the Durham Bulls on Sunday night. The Knights are now back in Uptown Charlotte to begin a six-day, seven-game homestand starting on Tuesday, July 27 against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins) from Truist Field.

In Durham, the Knights won just one game against the Bulls. Charlotte’s lone win came on Friday night in a 4-0 shutout win. The Knights ended up 1-5 on the road trip at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

FRIDAY'S WIN
RHP Mike Wright tossed 5.2 shutout innings and designated hitter Yermín Mercedes launched a solo homer to lead the Charlotte Knights to a 4-0 victory over the Durham Bulls from Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Friday night. Wright (6-3, 3.09) pitched into the sixth inning on Friday and allowed just two hits and no runs to the first-place Bulls. The 31-year-old right-hander struck-out seven batters on the evening and lowered his ERA to 3.09 on the season. Relievers Nik Turley (1.1 IP), Lane Ramsey (1.0 IP) and Connor Sadzeck (1.0 IP) held the Bulls scoreless and hitless over the final 3.1 innings.

THE WRIGHT STUFF
For the season, Wright -- the Triple-A East Pitcher of the Month for June -- is among the Top 10 Triple-A East leaders in a number of categories. His 3.09 ERA is first in the Triple-A East. He is also seventh in strikeouts (73), tied for fifth in wins (6), second in batting average against (.189), second in WHIP (1.00), first in IP (78.2) and tied for fifth in win percentage (.667).

THE YERMÍNATOR
It was a busy week both on and off-the-field for Yermín Mercedes. With talk of a potential retirement, Mercedes missed just one game last week and played for the Knights in the other five. For the week, Mercedes hit .368 (7-for-19) with two runs scored, two home runs and two RBIs. In Sunday’s game, he had three hits including a long home run in the top of the third inning.

In 18 games with the Knights this season since being optioned from Chicago, Mercedes is hitting .329 (23-for-70) with 14 runs scored, five doubles, one triple, six home runs and 12 RBIs. He has hit safely in 15 of his 18 games this season with the Knights. Mercedes was the American League Rookie of the Month in April after hitting .415/.455/.659 with five home runs and 34 hits in 22 games.

THE JOY OF ELOY
OF Eloy Jiménez appeared in five of the six games on the road trip as he continued his Major League Rehab Assignment from the White Sox. He hit .278 (5-for-18) with a double and an RBI on the road trip. In all, Jiménez appeared in 10 games with the Charlotte Knights on rehab and hit .263 (10-for-38) with three runs scored, two doubles, one home run and two RBIs.

Jimenez also made a catch on Tuesday night in left field. The video on @KnightsBaseball Twitter has received over 62,000 views!

OFFENSIVE STARS
The Knights pounded out five home runs in Sunday’s game… INF Zach Remillard, OF Mikie Mahtook, C/DH Yermín Mercedes and OF Micker Adolfo all had two home runs each on the road trip… Adolfo hit both of his home runs in Sunday’s game, the first two of his Triple-A career… INF Laz Rivera hit .500 (5-for-10) over three games… OF Blake Rutherford hit .333 (7-for-21) with six runs scored, one home run and one RBI.
