Knights Split Thursday’s Doubleheader with Tides

Burger’s Three-Run Homer in Game Two Wins it for Charlotte

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) – The Charlotte Knights split Thursday’s doubleheader against the Norfolk Tides from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. The Knights dropped game one by a score of 8-4 and won game two by a score of 8-7. Charlotte third baseman Jake Burger played the hero in game two.

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) – The Charlotte Knights split Thursday’s doubleheader against the Norfolk Tides from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. The Knights dropped game one by a score of 8-4 and won game two by a score of 8-7.

Charlotte third baseman Jake Burger played the hero in game two. Burger ripped a three-run, go-ahead home run in the bottom of the sixth inning of game two to propel the Knights to an 8-7 victory. RHP Carl Edwards Jr. struck-out two batters in the top of the seventh inning to earn the save. LHP Bennett Sousa (3-2, 4.09) struck-out the side in the sixth inning to notch his third win of the season.

Burger went 1-for-3 with the home run, his 18th of the season, three RBIs and two runs scored.

In game one, the Tides scored six runs over the first three innings en route to the 8-4 win. LHP Kyle Kubat (2-3, 4.97) started for the Knights and allowed six runs on seven hits over two innings. Kubat was charged with the loss.

Charlotte catcher Seby Zavala hit a solo home run in the second inning to put the team on the scoreboard. The home run was his eighth of the season. Outfielders Micker Adolfo and Blake Rutherford paced the offense with two hits apiece. Rutherford had a team-high three RBIs.

The Knights are now 1-1 during “The Final Stretch” so far this season. The team has three more home games (Friday through Sunday) before wrapping up the 2021 campaign with five games in Memphis against the Redbirds next week.
