Knights Split Thursday’s Twin Bill with 'Shrimp

Parke Earned First Triple-A Win, Knights Get Three Homers

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) – The Charlotte Knights and Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp split Thursday’s doubleheader from Truist Field. The Jumbo Shrimp won game one by a score of 6-4 and the Knights took game two by a score of 3-2.

First baseman Zach Remillard and catcher Yermín Mercedes both homered in game two to power the Charlotte offense past Jacksonville. The Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a leadoff home run from Remillard, his ninth of the season. In the fifth with the game tied at 2-2, Mercedes put the Knights ahead of the ‘Shrimp with a solo homer, his seventh of the season.

LHP John Parke (1-0, 0.00), who was promoted to Charlotte from Double-A Birmingham before the game, made his Triple-A debut and was sharp. Parke, a product of the University of South Carolina, allowed just two unearned runs over five innings to earn the win. Relievers Hunter Schryver and Bennett Sousa were also sharp out of the bullpen. Schryver tossed a scoreless sixth inning and Sousa earned the save after a scoreless seventh inning.

The Knights dropped the first game of the doubleheader when the Shrimp added two runs in the top of the seventh inning off RHP Connor Sadzeck (2-2, 5.86). Sadzeck allowed two runs over 1.2 innings pitched and was saddled with the loss.

Left fielder Mikie Mahtook launched his team-high 15th home run of the season in the bottom of the second inning of game one.

The Knights will continue the seven-game series against Jacksonville om Friday night with first pitch set for 7:04 p.m. from Truist Field.
