Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the South Bend Cubs (affiliate of the Chicago Cubs) in the second game of a four-game series. This is game two of the 2018 Second Half season. 
Season Series to Date:  Dayton 5, South Bend 2 (at Dayton: Dragons 3, Cubs 1). Current Series to Date:  South Bend 1, Dayton 0.
Low Scoring Matchups:  In all seven games played between Dayton and South Bend this season, the teams combined to score five runs or less. In six of the seven games, the winning team scored three runs or less (winner scored four in the exception). Five of the seven games have been decided by one run.
Last Game:Thursday:  South Bend 3, Dayton 2. Three Cubs pitchers combined to allow just five hits. The Cubs built a 3-0 lead by the middle of the fifth inning before the Dragons started back with single runs in the bottom of the fifth and bottom of the seventh to make it 3-2. The Dragons did not have a hit after the seventh. Malik Collymore led Dayton with a solo home run and an RBI double.

2018 Individual Notes

  • Montrell Marshall was selected as the MVP of Tuesday's MWL All-Star Game at Lansing. Marshall drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the East Division team a 3-2 victory. Dragons reliever John Ghyzel pitched a scoreless top of the 10th for the East despite starting the inning with the mandatory runner at second base.
  • Hunter Greene over his last five starts: 23.2 IP, 20 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 7 BB, 27 SO, 2.28 ERA.
  • John Ghyzel is tied for first in the MWL lead in saves with 12.
  • Cory Thompson has posted a 1.83 ERA in 25 relief appearances.
