Dayton, Ohio – As part of the season-long Hometown Heroes Program, the Dayton Dragons will celebrate our local military community on Saturday, August 13, as they host the Lansing Lugnuts on American Celebration Night at Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District. This special night will honor all servicemen and women of the military who defend our freedoms both locally and abroad.

Throughout the 2022 season, the Dragons have partnered with Dayton Development Coalition and Reynolds and Reynolds to shine the spotlight on the military through the Hometown Heroes program. This amazing program hosts military families at every Dragons game, recognizes outstanding military organizations and individuals, and welcomes the newest members of the armed forces during special ceremonies. The program also hosted a military promotion ceremony, Gold Star Families, various first pitches before games, and more.

Festivities for American Celebration Night will begin before the game on the plaza, where fans can check out various military related booths and numerous military vehicles. Inside the ballpark, General Duke Richardson and Colonel Christopher Meeker will throw out the ceremonial first pitches. The national anthem will be performed by Master Sgt. Christin Foley and signed by Nevaeh Chace, and the colors will be presented by the Honor Guard from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The anthem will also include a dove release and the unveiling of a giant American flag.

American Celebration Night also connects baseball to the local military community with the Kroger Baseball Buddies. This year, the Kroger Baseball Buddies feature children of Springfield Air National Guard families, who will take the field with Dragons players for the national anthem.

In-Game activities will include a U.S. Air Force and Marines official recruit swear-in, a demonstration by the Northmont High School NJROTC, the performing of God Bless America by Master Sgt. Christin Foley, an “Armed Services Song” inning-break, and a video recap of our Hometown Heroes Program.

To cap off the celebration, you won’t want to miss the incredible post-game fireworks show, presented by Associated Builders and Contractors.

The Hometown Heroes program is made possible by the Dayton Development Coalition, Reynolds & Reynolds, and the Dayton Dragons.
