Dayton, Ohio-Dayton starting pitcher Austin Orewiler and two relievers combined to allow only two hits and Andy Sugilio hit a two-run home run in the first inning as the Dragons defeated the Bowling Green Hot Rods 3-1 on Saturday night. The largest crowd of the season, 9,173, was in attendance on Hometown Heroes American Celebration night at Fifth Third Field.
Orewiler (5-4) worked the first seven innings, allowing only three base runners. He surrendered one run on two hits and one walk while striking out one. Cory Thompson pitched a perfect eighth inning and John Ghyzel struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth for his 19th save. Only one Bowling Green runner advanced past first base in the game.
The Dragons scored all three of their runs in the first inning. Jonathan India delivered a two-out, run-scoring double to bring in the first run, and Sugilio followed with a two-run blast to right field to give the Dragons a 3-0 lead. The home run was Sugilio's fourth of the year.
The only Bowling Green run came on a seventh inning solo home run by Moises Gomez. The Hot Rods did not have an at-bat in the game with a runner in scoring position.

The Dragons finished with five hits. Jose Garcia was 2 for 4 to extend his hitting streak to five straight games.
The Dragons have won three of four games so far on their six-game home stand.
In the Standings: The Dragons improved to 23-32 in the second half with the win. They are four games behind Great Lakes in the Midwest League's East Division Second Half wildcard race. There are 15 games to play including nine home games for the Dragons.
Up Next:  The Dragons host Bowling Green in the second game of the series at Fifth Third Field on Sunday at 2:07 p.m.  Mac Sceroler (2-5, 5.67) will start for Dayton against Mikey York (1-0, 2.54).
