Bowling Green, Ky.-Bowling Green's Ronaldo Hernandez collected three hits and scored two runs as the Hot Rods defeated the Dayton Dragons 8-4 on Friday night. Bowling Green won both games of the brief two-game set in Kentucky to start the season. The Dragons open their home season on Saturday night at Fifth Third Field against Bowling Green.
The Hot Rods built a 5-0 lead over the first fourth innings, scoring single runs in the first and second innings and then picking up three runs in the fourth. The Dragons started back in the fifth inning when Dayton catcher Hendrik Clementina belted a home run to right field to make it 5-1. The Dragons scored again in the sixth when Miles Gordon singled, stole second, went to third on a passed ball, and scored on John Sansone's ground out to close the gap to 5-2. In the seventh, the Dragons pulled back to within two runs and had the tying run at the plate. Clementina doubled with one out and scored from second on Jeter Downs' double to make it 5-3. Narciso Crook struck out to end the inning.
But Bowling Green pulled away in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three runs against Dragons reliever Luis Alecis to take an 8-3 lead. Dayton's Stuart Fairchild blasted a solo home run in the eighth to close out the scoring.
The Dragons finished with six hits after collecting 11 on Thursday night. Clementina led the way with a home run, double, and walk. Downs and Leandro Santana each had a double.

Dragons starting pitcher Mac Sceroler (0-1) was charged with the loss. He worked the first four innings, allowing five runs on six hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Reliever Ryan Nutof had an excellent outing, striking out five batters over two scoreless innings. But Alecis surrendered three hits and three runs in just one third of an inning. John Ghyzel struck out three in his only inning of relief.
Notes: Dragons outfielder Andy Sugilio left the game in the fourth inning after suffering what was initially diagnosed as a strained hamstring injury…The Dragons did not commit an error in the game after being charged with four on Thursday night…Dayton stole four bases including two by Sansone.
