The 2017 World Series between the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers begins on Tuesday night, and a pair of players who have previous ties to the Greenville Drive will be playing crucial roles for their teams in the Fall Classic.
Outfielder Josh Reddick (2007-08) put together one of his best seasons in the major leagues after signing a four-year contract with Houston in the winter. The 30-year old set career highs with a .314 batting average and a .363 on-base percentage in 2017, and he also smacked 13 homers while driving in 82 runs.
Pitcher Rich Hill (2012 rehab assignment) matched his career best with 12 victories for the Dodgers in his age-37 season. The southpaw logged a 3.32 ERA in 25 starts for Los Angeles, and he struck out 166 batters over 135 2/3 innings while holding opponents to a .202 average.
Interestingly enough, Reddick and Hill were traded together from the Oakland Athletics to the Dodgers at the 2016 trade deadline in a deal for three minor leaguers, one of whom was fellow Drive alum Frankie Montas (2013).
