Bulls 2B Miles Mastrobuoni mashed a grand slam and drove in six runs as Durham (55-45) matched a season-high with 15 hits on Tuesday night in a 16-0 victory over the Worcester Red Sox (51-49) in game one of the six-game series at Polar Park. Tuesday’s win gave Durham their 10th shutout victory of the season..

Durham got started in the second frame as 3B Jim Haley went yard on a two-run shot to left field. The Bulls would find their rhythm at the plate in the fifth as they scored a season-high nine runs in a single frame. RF Ruben Cardenas ignited an two run double, 1B Tristan Gray extended his International League leading home run tally to 24 on a three-run bomb and LF Grant Witherspoon clubbed a two-run single for the 8-0 lead. Mastrobuoni then tattooed an RBI double and DH Jonathan Aranda knocked an RBI groundout to round out the inning.

In the sixth, Durham would pick up right where they left off in the fifth as an RBI single from CF Ryan Boldt extended the lead to 12-0 before Mastrobuoni launched a grand-slam to give him six RBI on the night. The Bulls set season-highs in runs scored in a single game and a single inning, while matching their season-high in hits. It was also the team’s largest margin of victory in 2022.

The Durham pitching staff of Cooper Criswell, Tommy Romero, Nick Anderson, Joel Peguero, Cristofer Ogando, and Dalton Moats combined to allow just four hits, while ringing up nine strikeouts. Romero earned the win number five on the season after one inning of work, allowing one hit and recording one strikeout. Worcester pitcher Geoff Hartlieb suffered the loss.

The Bulls are set to continue their six-game road trip on Wednesday against the Worcester Red Sox, with first pitch scheduled for 12:15 pm. RHP Kevin Herget is expected to start for Durham and be opposed by RHP Brian Keller for Worcester.

The Bulls will return to the DBAP following their six-game road trip on Tuesday, August 9th to open a six-game homestand against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm.

Tickets for that game and all remaining 2022 home games are still available and can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com.
