Bulls Smash Nashville 7-2

Glasnow fans nine in 4.0 scoreless frames, Brujan, Aranda & Misner all homer

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow struck out nine of sixteen batters faced in four shutout innings as part of his Major League Rehab Assignment with the Bulls, while Durham second baseman Vidal Brujan, first baseman Jonathan Aranda and center fielder Kameron Misner all homered and combined to drive in five runs in a 7-2 victory over the Nashville Sounds on Tuesday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Glasnow (4.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 SO) yielded just three hits and one walk while striking out nine batters in his third start with the Bulls as part of his Major League Rehab Assignment. Combined, he has not allowed a run in his 7.1 frames, adding 14 punchouts over those three starts with Durham.

Misner got the scoring started with a solo shot in the third, with Brujan immediately following with a longball of his own to make it 2-0. One inning later Brujan would drive in his second run of the night with an RBI single prior to Aranda’s two-run blast. After Nashville plated a tally in the top of the seventh, Durham answered with a two more scores courtesy of C Rene Pinto’s RBI double and 1B Kyle Manzardo’s run-scoring single. The Sounds would then narrow their deficit with a single tally in the eighth.

Brujan (2-5, R, HR, 2 RBI), Aranda (2-3, R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, BB) and Misner (2-4, 2 R, HR, RBI) all recorded multi-hit efforts for the Bulls, combining for six hits, including three big flies, and five runs driven in. SS Osleivis Basabe clubbed a single in the third to extend his hit streak to a 2023 team-best nine games.

Fellow Rays right hander Shawn Armstrong (1.0 IP, 1 SO) earned the victory in support of Glasnow with a perfect inning of work as part of his Major League Rehab Assignment. Nashville starter Janson Junk (4.0 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, BB, 3 SO) suffered the defeat.

The two teams are set to face off again on Wednesday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm. Durham’s starting pitcher has not yet been determined, while Nashville is anticipated to give the ball to RHP Pedro Fernandez (1-1, 2.63).
