After Jacksonville earned a 7-2 win in game one of Thursday’s doubleheader, Durham catcher Joseph Odom, designated hitter Joey Roach and center fielder Josh Lowe all homered as starter Drew Strotman extended his scoreless streak to ten innings to start the year in a 6-0 win in the nightcap as the Bulls split their twinbill with the Jumbo Shrimp at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Strotman has started his year off strong, striking out nine batters over his ten scoreless frames, yielding three hits in that span as well. The right-hander earned his second win in as many outings in 2021, with relievers Yacksel Rios (1.0 IP, H, K) and Joey Krehbiel (1.0 IP) preserving the shutout. Jacksonville starter Daniel Castano suffered the defeat.

Odom starting the power surge with a two-run home run, his first of the year, over the Snorting Bull in the second. 3B Taylor Walls would later bring home Lowe with an RBI infield single before Roach ripped a solo shot in the fifth, the first Triple-A home run in the Holly Springs native’s career. Lowe later put the exclamation mark on the nightcap with his two-run blast in the fifth.

Durham 3B Wander Franco (2-3, R, BB) and 2B Esteban Quiroz (2-3, R, 2B) each collected two hits in the opening game of the doubleheader. The Jumbo Shrimp offense recorded single tallies in the first, second, third, fifth and seventh frames, in addition to a two-spot in the fourth.

Jumbo Shrimp starter Nick Neidert (5.0 IP 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) earned the win in game one, while Bulls starter Adrian De Horta (2.0 IP, H, 2 R, ER, 4 BB, 3 K) suffered the defeat.

The two teams are set to face off again on Friday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Durham’s starter has not yet been announced, while Jacksonville is anticipated to turn to RHP Josh A. Smith (0-0, 3.60).
