Lehigh Valley scored six unanswered runs after Durham had taken an early lead, sending the Iron Pigs to a 6-1 victory over the Bulls on Saturday night.

Ruben Cardenas stroked a run-scoring single in the second inning against Tyler Phillips (W, 1-1) to put the Bulls (5-9) ahead 1-0. But that would be the end of the night offensively for the Bulls.

Jordan Luplow connected for an opposite-field home run in the second off of Adam Leverett (L, 0-1) to tie the game, then David Dahl hit a tie-breaking homer in the third to give the Iron Pigs their first lead of the night.

The game remained tight through the middle frames, but the Lehigh Valley defense shined brightly. Three hits were taken away by Iron Pig infielders, catcher Jose Godoy threw out successive basestealers and Luplow gunned down Ronny Simon attempting to stretch a single into a double. Those gems allowed Phillips to throw seven innings, only permitting the one unearned run.

Leverett, who was making his Tampa Bay organizational Triple-A debut, worked four innings, yielding just the two solo homers and struck out two.

All six of Durham’s hits were singles.

The series finale against Lehigh Valley is Sunday afternoon at 1:35 PM ET. Joe Rock (0-0, 10.57) is scheduled to start against Kolby Allard (0-1, 4.70)
