Major League Baseball's Fall Classic begins on Friday, October 27, with former Durham Bulls players represented on both the American League's Texas Rangers and National League's Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Rangers feature a pair of Durham alums in former infielder Nathaniel Lowe (2018-19) and right-handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (2018) while the Diamondbacks boasts three players who have worn a Bulls uniform in infielder Evan Longoria (2007-08, 12), as well as right-handed pitchers Merrill Kelly (2013-14) and Ryan Thompson (2021-23).

Over 121 games with the Bulls between the 2018-19 campaigns, Lowe compiled a .282 batting average (121-429), adding 81 runs, 30 doubles, one triple, 20 homers and 79 RBI along with an .898 OPS. In 161 regular season contests with Texas this year he posted a .262 mark (163-623) along with 89 runs, 38 doubles, three triples, 17 homers and 82 RBI.

Eovaldi pitched in one game for the Bulls as part of a Major League Rehab Assignment on May 23, 2018 at Gwinnett. During the regular season he accumulated a 12-5 record and 3.63 ERA (144.0 IP), adding 132 strikeouts in 25 starts.

Longoria participated in 48 games with Durham during the 2007-08 and 2012 seasons, combining for a .245 average (39-159), adding 21 runs, eight doubles, five homers and 20 RBI. In his 74 regular season tilts with the DIamondbacks this year he owned a .223 average (47-211), adding 25 runs, nine doubles, 11 homers and 28 RBI.

Across his two seasons pitching with the Bulls between 2013-14, Kelly combined for a 17-8 record and 2.94 ERA (198.2 IP) in 43 appearances, including 29 starts, adding 178 strikeouts. In his 30 starts with Arizona this season he recorded a 12-8 mark and 3.29 ERA (177.2 IP), adding 187 punchouts in 30 starts.

Thompson pitched for Durham over parts of each of the last three seasons, including the 2023 campaign, combining for a 5-0 record and 2.66 ERA (23.2 IP) with 31 strikeouts in 18 appearances. This year he tallied a 4-0 clip and 3.26 ERA (19.1 IP) with 24 strikeouts before being designated for assignment by Tampa Bay on August 16 and signed by Arizona three days later. He compiled no record and 0.69 ERA (13.0 IP) with one save in 13 relief outings with the Diamondbacks, adding nine strikeouts.

Last season former Bulls right-handed pitcher Ryne Stanek earned a World Series ring with the Houston Astros, while former Durham player and manager Brian Snitker, as well as left-handed pitcher Drew Smyly won the 2021 Fall Classic with the Atlanta Braves.
