Jonny DeLuca Joins Durham On MLB Rehab Assignment

The Tampa Bay Rays announced on Wednesday that outfielder Jonny DeLuca has joined Durham as part of his Major League Rehab Assignment as he recovers from a left hamstring strain.

DeLuca played with the Bulls last month as part of a separate MLB Rehab Assignment, participating in five games before being activated by the Rays. He returned to the Injured List after 11 games with Tampa Bay on August 8. Across 20 contests with Tampa Bay this season he has accumulated a .333 average (19-57), adding five runs, three doubles and four RBI along with six steals in as many attempts.

In his three Major League seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2023) and Tampa Bay Rays (2024-25), De Luca has compiled a .237 mark (102-431) along with 39 runs, 14 doubles, seven triples, eight homers and 41 RBI, adding 23 steals in 29 attempts. He was acquired by the Rays in a December 16, 2023 deal along with RHP Ryan Pepiot in exchange for RHP Tyler Glasnow, OF Manuel Margot and cash considerations. The 27-year-old was originally selected by the Dodgers in the 25th round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of the University of Oregon.

DeLuca joins fellow Tampa Bay outfielder Richie Palacios on an MLB Rehab Assignment with the Bulls. Palacios joined Durham on August 19 and has hit .235 (4-17) with three runs, one double, one homer and one RBI in his five games of this current MLB Rehab Assignment.

The Bulls are set to continue their six-game homestand this evening against the Worcester Red Sox, the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm.
