Mancini's 9th Inning Blast Beats Bulls, 2-1

Tides Shock Durham; Claim 2nd Straight In Series
July 1, 2016

Norfolk, VA --- Trey Mancini clubbed a two-run homer with one out in the bottom of the ninth to valut the Norfolk Tides past the Durham Bulls 2-1 on Friday night.

The Tides' (32-50) rally started on a one-out line drive single by Mike Yastrzemski that barely eluded Daniel Robertson's reach against Steve Geltz. On the next pitch, Mancini socked a two-run homer into the Durham bullpen over the left-centerfield wall for the game-winner.

Durham (36-47) waited through a 44-minute rain delay in the fourth, then scored the game's first run in the fifth on a two-out single to center by Dayron Varona. Eury Perez had just touched home plate before Yastrzemski's throw cut down Robertson trying to advance to third base.

After Adam Kolarek had thrown four heroic innings behind Jacob Faria, who was pulled after three innings due to the rain delay, the Tides nearly evened the game in the eighth. A two-out single to right-center by Xavier Avery appeared to have tied the game. However, Perez sprinted over to scoop up the ball and make an against-the-body throw on one hope to home plate. JP Arencibia dug the short-hop in his mitt and applied the tag on the shoulder of Corban Joseph to keep the Bulls in front 1-0.

The Bulls continue their series on Saturday night against the Tides with Eddie Gamboa making the start at 7:05 PM ET.
