Durham Bulls right-handed pitcher Tommy Romero has been named Triple-A East Pitcher of the Week for the time period between September 7-12. It is the fourth time a Bulls player has earned a weekly honor from the league this season.

Romero struck out a career-high 13 batters in his last start on September 10 versus Norfolk, yielding just two hits and one walk over 7.2 scoreless frames to earn his fourth victory with Durham. He also fanned eight of the first nine batters he faced that evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Combined between Montgomery (AA) and Durham this season, the 23-year-old has compiled a 5-2 record and 2.98 ERA (93.2 IP) in 20 outings (18 starts), adding 128 strikeouts compared to 28 walks. Those 128 punchouts rank Romero tied for first among Tampa Bay Rays minor league pitchers alongside fellow Bulls right-hander Tobias Myers. In nine starts with Durham this season, Romero has posted a 4-2 mark and 4.14 ERA (45.2 IP), adding 53 strikeouts.

Romero is the fourth different Bulls player to receive a Triple-A East weekly honor this season, joining right-handers Shane Baz (June 21-27) and Joe Ryan (July 5-11), as well as infielder Dalton Kelly (August 24-29).

Following a league-wide off day on Monday, the Bulls will try to clinch the Triple-A East Southeast Division when they return to action on Tuesday, September 14 to start a six-game road trip in Charlotte. Durham's magic number to clinch the division crown is one, meaning one Bulls win or a Gwinnett Stripers loss wins Durham the division.

The Bulls will return to Durham Bulls Athletic Park for one final homestand in 2021 on Wednesday, September 22 for a five-game series versus the Stripers, the Triple-A Affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. First pitch of the series opener that evening is scheduled for 6:35pm. Tickets for that game and all remaining 2021 home games are still available and can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com.
