Walls, Lowe & Kiermaier Named Gold Glove Award Finalists

Major League Baseball on Wednesday afternoon announced the finalists for the Rawlings Gold Glove Awards in the American and National Leagues, with the list featuring a trio of former Durham Bulls players.

Tampa Bay Rays infielder Taylor Walls (2021, 23) earned a spot as a finalist in the Utility spot after combining for eight errors in 325 total chances, good for a .975 fielding percentage. This marks the first time he has been named a finalist for a Gold Glove Award after completing his third season with the Rays.

Walls in 54 career games with the Bulls, including a two-game Major League Rehab Assignment stint this past season, has combined for a .254 average (47-185), adding 44 runs, nine doubles, one triple, nine homers and 30 RBI along with an .850 OPS and .974 fielding percentage.

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier (2012-14, 18) was named a finalist as a Center Fielder for the Gold Glove Award after being charged with just three errors while recording a .989 fielding percentage. Kiermaier has previous earned Gold Glove Awards following the 2015-16 and 2019 seasons.

In 80 career games over four seasons with the Bulls, including a Major League Rehab Assignment in 2018, Kiermaier combined for a .288 average (82-285), adding 56 runs, 15 doubles, eight triples, four homers and 28 RBI while committing just one error in 215 total chances (.995 fielding percentage).

Texas Rangers infielder Nathaniel Lowe (2018-19) was named a finalist for the Gold Glove Award at first base. Lowe posted a .998 fielding percentage this year with the Rangers and was charged with three errors in 1,330 total chances. This is the first time he has been named a finalist for the Gold Glove Award.

Over 121 career contests with the Bulls, Lowe hit .282 (121-429) with 81 runs, 30 doubles, one triple, 20 homers and 79 RBI along with an .898 OPS. In those two campaigns he combined for a .994 fielding percentage and was charged with four errors in 715 total chances.
