The El Paso Chihuahuas brought the tying run to the plate with two outs in the top of the ninth inning Wednesday but lost to the Las Vegas Aviators 6-4 at Las Vegas Ballpark. The Aviators have won the first two games of the six-game series.
San Diego Padres pitcher Yu Darvish made his first MLB Injury Rehab start of the season for El Paso and allowed two runs in four innings, striking out four and walking one. The only runs came on a two-run home run to left field by Las Vegas right fielder Colby Thomas, his ninth homer of the season. El Paso’s runs came on a two-run home run by Oscar González in the top of the seventh and a two-run single by Tirso Ornelas in the ninth. It was González’ fifth home run in 12 Triple-A games this season.
Chihuahuas shortstop Clay Dungan went 3-for-4 with three doubles, joining Yonathan Perlaza as the only Chihuahuas with three doubles in a game this season. Athletics pitcher J.T. Ginn also made an MLB Injury Rehab start Wednesday and threw 3.1 shutout innings for Las Vegas. Harold Chirino and David Morgan both pitched scoreless relief appearances for El Paso.
