The El Paso Chihuahuas beat the Round Rock Express 12-4 Wednesday afternoon at Southwest University Park and they’ve taken the first two games of the series. It was El Paso’s fourth win in a row overall to set a new season high.
Chihuahuas shortstop Clay Dungan hit a three-run inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a deep fly ball that Round Rock left fielder Jonathan Ornelas lost in the sun. It was the ninth inside-the-park home run in Chihuahuas history and the first since Brett Sullivan’s on June 6, 2024 at home against Las Vegas.
San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth went 1-for-2 with a walk in his second MLB Injury Rehab game for El Paso. Cronenworth has reached base six times in his eight plate appearances with the Chihuahuas. Round Rock brought in catcher Konner Piotto to pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning, which was the first time a position player pitched against the Chihuahuas since Salt Lake’s Zach Humphreys on September 13, 2024.
