SeaWolves Even Series with Back-and-Forth Win over New Hampshire

ERIE, PA - The Erie SeaWolves (32-15, 68-47) put together a complete effort with five players posting multi-hit games in a 6-5 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (19-28, 53-61) on Wednesday night at UPMC Park in Erie.

The SeaWolves offense got started early with a quick single from Peyton Graham. After Graham swiped second and Woody Hadeen singled, Zyhir Hope knocked home the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly. The early production bled into the second inning with a leadoff triple from Andrew Jenkins. Recent SeaWolves' addition Luke Shliger bashed him home with his first Double-A double to make it a 2-0 game.

Erie starter Carlos Peña cruised through the first four innings on the mound. The lefty punched out five Fisher Cats and stranded three runners on base. Peña ran into his first spot of trouble in the fifth inning as Hedbert Perez led off the inning with a double and stole third base. After Peña picked up his sixth strikeout, JR Freethy walloped a line drive to score the run and narrow the New Hampshire deficit to one.

The Erie starter faced more adversity in the sixth. A single and a walk allowed Carter Cunningham to plate the tying run on a line-drive single, before Alexis Hernandez found a hole in the infield to score the go-ahead run. Peña left the game with the bases loaded. Johan Simon took over for the SeaWolves and the lefty walked the first batter he faced to make it a 4-2 New Hampshire lead before he induced a double play to end the threat.

Peña finished his day with 5.1 innings pitched. The left-hander allowed eight hits and four runs on three walks and six strikeouts.

The SeaWolves answered in the bottom of the sixth. Woody Hadeen roped a double to center field and Thayron Liranzo crushed his 14th home run of the season to tie the game. Andrew Jenkins followed up with another double and scored on a line-drive single from Izaac Pacheco to give Erie a 5-4 lead.

New Hampshire once again had the answer on offense in the seventh. Back-to-back singles put runners at the corners. Simon then balked home a run to move the game back to square at five.

Seth Stephenson beat out a ground ball to start the bottom of the inning and immediately swiped second base. Peyton Graham laced a ground-rule double to left field on a ball that got wedged in the wall. Stephenson scored to give Erie the lead.

Moises Rodriguez worked a scoreless eighth inning on just five pitches in his first outing since being activated from the injured list, aided by the SeaWolves infield turning its fourth double play of the game. Wandisson Charles locked down his fourth save of the season in the ninth to secure a 6-5 victory.

Lucas Elissalt makes his UPMC Park debut on the mound for the SeaWolves tomorrow. The 22-year old right-hander opposes Danny Thompson Jr. for New Hampshire. First pitch is at 6:05 PM.
