SeaWolves Score 10 Unanswered Runs to Stun Curve

ERIE, PA - The Erie SeaWolves (24-11, 60-43) entered the fifth inning trailing 7-0 to the Altoona Curve (15-20, 46-58) after Altoona plated seven runs in the fourth inning. The Howlers responded by pushing across runs in each of the final four innings at the plate, including four in the sixth, en route to a 10-7 win over the Curve to even the series.

SeaWolves starter Hayden Minton allowed the first runs of the game in the fourth inning after three scoreless frames. A strikeout to start the inning was followed by six consecutive hits. Minton was pulled from the game in the middle of the inning after allowing more than two runs to score for the first time in a SeaWolves start.

Altoona sent 10 total hitters to the plate in the fourth and scored seven runs on eight hits. Yosber Sanchez finished the frame on the mound and was charged with one of the seven that came across to score.

Altoona starter Peyton Stumbo flew through his first four innings of work on the mound. The righty allowed only three hits and no runs. Despite the dominant start, the SeaWolves struck their first blow against Stumbo in the fifth when Stephen Hrustich singled to lead off the inning. Max Burt doubled to put runners at first and second with no one out before Seth Stephenson put Erie on the board when he reached on an error from Javier Rivas at third base. Peyton Graham pushed across a second run on an RBI-single and Josue Briceño grounded out to score a third and make it a 7-3 game.

Stumbo returned for the sixth inning. Erie started the inning with back-to-back singles from Andrew Jenkins and EJ Exposito. Hrustich walked to load the bases with no outs. Curve Manager Andy Fox pulled Stumbo to bring on Kyle Larsen. A bases-loaded walk from Larsen scored the first run of the inning, and Stephenson doubled to push across two more runs to cut Altoona's lead to a one-run game. A sacrifice fly from Briceño pushed across the fourth run of the inning to tie the game at seven.

Erie kept adding on in the seventh when Jenkins hit the 1,000th triple in SeaWolves history with one out. EJ Exposito scored him to give Erie its first lead of the game on a groundball to third as the throw from Javier Rivas got away from the catcher, Easton Carmichael.

Erie entered the eighth with a one-run lead in search of some insurance. Josue Briceño provided it immediately with a 424-foot two-run home run out to center field to make it 10-7. The blast was Briceño's sixth home run in just 14 games since returning from the injured list.

Tyler Owens pitched the final two innings scoreless out of the bullpen to earn his third save of the season.

Erie evens the series at one and is back in action Thursday at 6:05 PM. Andrew Sears gets the starts opposite Matt Ager for the Curve.
