SeaWolves Drop Regular Season Finale in Reading

READING, PA - The Erie SeaWolves (43-26, 79-58) dropped the final game of the regular season in a 17-7 loss to the Reading Fightin' Phils (40-28, 70-67) on Sunday afternoon.

Erie got on the board early with an Andrew Jenkins home run to lead off the second inning against Reading starter Ryan Dromboski, Jenkins' 11th home run of the season.

Reading matched with a leadoff home run in the bottom half of the inning as Carson DeMartini evened the score against Max Alba.

Both teams continued the leadoff homer trend in the third as Woody Hadeen homered for Erie and Luis Caicuto responded with a blast of his own in the bottom half.

The SeaWolves scored a pair in the fourth inning with a run crossing on a double from Patrick Lee and another on a sacrifice fly from Peyton Graham.

Reading broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth with a five-run inning highlighted by a two-run home run from Bryan Rincon.

Alba's outing came to a close after four innings and Eric Silva entered from the bullpen. The right-hander surrendered an unearned run in the fifth and the Fightin' Phils extended the lead to 8-4.

Patrick Lee cut into the deficit with a two-run blast to straightaway center field in the sixth inning but Reading scored a run in the bottom half after a double on a flyball into the sun in center field that set up an RBI fielder's choice from Dante Nori.

Erie scored in the seventh on an RBI single from Izaac Pacheco to pull within two runs before the Fightin' Phils struck their final blow in the bottom of the inning. Reading scored eight runs in the inning with home runs from Bryan Rincon and Aroon Escobar, who had a double and a homer in the frame. Seven of the runs scored against Johan Simon and the final blast went against the line of Yosber Sanchez.

Neither team scored in the final two innings and the Fightin' Phils took the series victory, the first series loss for Erie since May.

The SeaWolves are back in action for Game 1 of the Southwest Division Series on Tuesday night at UPMC Park against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. The two teams split the 18 games between them this season with each side winning nine.
