On Monday, March 8, former Everett Giants Manager Norm Sherry passed away at 89 years old. Sherry spent two years in Everett with the Giants, finishing the 1992 season 35-41 and the 1993 season with a 42-34 record.

Sherry made his major league debut in 1959 as a catcher with the Los Angeles Dodgers; the 1959 Dodgers went on to win the World Series and his brother, RHP Larry Sherry, was named the MVP. Sherry spent his final big league season with the Mets in 1963. After a year in the Minors, Sherry rejoined the Dodgers organization in 1965 as the Santa Barbara Dodgers’ manager.

From 1965 to 1993, Sherry coached a variety of teams for the Dodgers and Angels before he joined the San Francisco Giants organization in 1992 and became the Everett Giants’ manager for the next two years. Sherry is often remembered for the influential role he played in future Hall of Famers’ careers, famously suggesting Sandy Koufax take speed off his fastball to help his control.
