ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Omaha Storm Chasers (62-66) collected a 5-1 victory over the Round Rock Express (58-67) on Sunday night at Dell Diamond. Round Rock was limited to just one run on seven hits in the defeat.
E-Train starter RHP James Dykstra (2-8, 7.47) suffered the loss after giving up three runs on eight hits and two walks in five innings. Omaha reliever RHP Mark Peterson (3-3, 4.75) earned the win after three perfect innings of relief that included a trio of strikeouts.
Omaha unleashed a flurry of singles to grab the lead in the top of the fourth inning. 1B Frank Schwindel , RF Hunter Dozier and 3B Dean Anna teamed up for three straight one-out knocks that loaded the bases. After a Billy Burns flyout, C Brayan Peña singled home a pair of runners. 2B Ramón Torres followed up with an RBI single of his own to stretch the gap to 3-0.
Round Rock attempted a comeback in the bottom half of the inning. DH Ryan Rua collected a leadoff single before being replaced by pinch-runner Brett Hayes . Following a Ronald Guzmán walk, C A.J. Jimenez doubled to send Hayes flying home. 2B Tyler Smith worked a walk to load the bases with just one out but Peterson collected back-to-back flyouts to escape the jam.
After four scoreless innings, Express LHP Adam Loewen entered to pitch the ninth inning. The lefty struck out Torres in the first at-bat of the frame, however the speedy infielder was able to take first base on a wild pitch. After striking out SS Raul Mondesi and DH Paulo Orlando , Loewen surrendered a two-run homer to LF Jorge Soler , giving the visitors a 5-1 lead that held to be the final score.
The Express and Storm Chasers are set to do battle once again on Monday night. Round Rock RHP Anthony Bass (2-3, 3.86) is scheduled to take the mound against Omaha LHP Onelki Garcia (7-2, 4.39). First pitch at Dell Diamond is slated for 7:05 p.m.
