Fightins get series win over Sea Dogs

Hoby Milner earned his team leading 10th win

Hoby Milner earned his team-leading 10th win on the season as the Reading Fightin Phils (62-76) beat the Portland Sea Dogs (85-53) 3-1 on Thursday night. The Fightin Phils matched their win total from last season and earned their first series win against the Sea Dogs on the season.  

Portland got on the board first 1-0 in the bottom of the 3rd inning with two outs against Hoby Milner as Keury De La Cruz hit a RBI single to score Mike Miller. Brian Johnson of the Sea Dogs retired 15 batters of the 17 batters he faced. Reading tied the game at 1-1 off reliever Pete Ruiz in the top of the 6th inning as Carlos Alonso hit a RBI single to score Edgar Duran who was hit by a pitch to begin in the inning.

The Fightin Phils loaded the bases off Ruiz in the top of the 7th inning as Altherr walked to begin the inning then KC Serna hit a one-out double to move him to third base. Logan Moore walked to load the bases then Ruiz struck out Edgar Duran for the second out of the inning. Albert Cartwright walked to break up the 1-1 tie and give Reading a 2-1 lead. Dayan Diaz entered the game and walked Carlos Alonso to allow Reading to take a 3-1 lead.

Hoby Milner (10-6) earned the win as he pitched six innings in his final start of the season as he allowed one run with five walks off seven hits and two strikeouts. Kyle Simon earned his second save on the season as he pitched three shutout innings.  

The Fightin Phils finish up the 2014 season in Trenton, New Jersey at Arm and Hammer Park as they will play the Thunder in a four-game series. First pitch is at 7:05 pm on Friday as Aaron Nola (1-0, 3.32 ERA) will be making his final start of the season.
