CHARLESTON, SC - Brenner Cox delivered a pair of RBI’s on his 20th birthday, as he helped Fredericksburg take down Charleston, 5-3 in 10 innings. The Nats improved to 22-10 with the victory, while the ‘Dogs are now 12-18.

Fredericksburg got a leadoff double from Jeremy De La Rosa in the third inning, followed by an Elijah Green single. A double steal put both runners in scoring position, then Jose Colmenares plated the first run of the night with a sac fly to right field, as Green tagged up to third base. Brenner Cox quickly made it a 2-0 Nats edge with his RBI single after Colmenares.

Marc Davis held Charleston scoreless in his four innings of work, but the RiverDogs broke through against Merrick Baldo in the sixth inning. They strung together four straight hits in the frame to score three times, and jump in front 3-2.

With the FredNats running out of time, they took advantage of a costly error. Charleston center fielder Cristopher Barete dropped a routine fly ball, which allowed Roismar Quintana to reach second base. Cox then drove him home with two outs, tying the game at 3-3.

The RiverDogs had the winning run on third base in the bottom of the ninth inning with no outs, but Thomas Schultz willed his way through trouble and sent the game to extra innings.

Jeremy De La Rosa wasted no time in the top of the 10th, as he doubled on the first pitch of the frame to score Marcus Brown from second base. He was lifted for a pinch runner in Brandon Pimentel, who worked his way around the bases on a sac fly and a wild pitch to give Fredericksburg a 5-3 lead.

Moises Diaz then worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the 10th inning, to lock down a 5-3 Nationals win. Thomas Schultz (2-1) earned the win, Hayden Snelsire (1-2) took the loss, while Diaz earned his first save of 2024.

In the series finale, Travis Sthele (0-1, 4.50) battles Chandler Murphy (0-0, 1.32) in a 5:05 start.
