G-Braves vs. Bisons 6/3-6/6
Buffalo Bisons - The Buffalo Bisons are the Triple-A affilitate of the New York Mets. The Mets moved their affiliate from Norfolk, to New Orleans and are now back in the state of New York, at Buffalo. Last season the Bisons finished with a record of 76-68 and finished in 3rd place in the IL North. Similar to the IronPigs, the Bisons have a new manager this year. Former Met Tim Teufel joins the organization and looks to take the Bisons to their first Governors' Cup since 2004.
G-Braves vs. Bisons - The G-Braves and the Bisons just got done playing a four game series before heading on back to Coolray Field. After the first two games of the four game series were postponed due to rain, the G-Braves and Bisons played doubleheaders in back-to-back days. The G-Braves took away the first game, and then lost the next three games. RHP Steven Shell and RHP Erik Cordier made their G-Braves 2011 debuts as starters.
Who to look for - Many of the Mets top prospects currently play for the Bisons. Here's a quick look at some upstate New Yorkers who look to take the throughway down to the Big Apple someday soon.
OF Fernando Martinez - While this speedy prospect seems like he has been around forever, Martinez is still only 22 and ranks as the number 8 organizational prospect in the Mets system. While several injuries have slowed his development, he still has shown the potential to be a big threat in the Mets lineup in the years to come.
OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis - The Mets number 5th overall prospects in a left handed outfielder originally from Southern California. Drafted in the third round of the 2008 MLB First Year Player Draft, the lefty shows good power and solid defense with the ability to play all three outfield positions. Before being promoted to Buffalo last season, Nieuwenhuis led the Eastern League in extra base hits with 56 while with the Binghamton Mets.
OF Lucas Duda - Duda, is another SoCal draftee by the Mets back in 2007. The left-handed hitter has the ability to play both corner outfield spots as well as first base. He showed great displine at the plate last year, starting with Binghamton (AA) and moving to Buffalo (AAA) all the way up to the Majors. Following the 2010 season, Duda was named the Mets Sterling Organizational Player of the Year.
