Reliever Peter Moylan Joins G-Braves

Former Atlanta Braves' right-hander back with Gwinnett for first time since 2012
June 2, 2015

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Gwinnett Braves, in conjunction with the Atlanta Braves, announced today the addition of right-handed pitcher Peter Moylan to the team's 25-man roster. Moylan was activated off the disabled list in Class-A Rome before being promoted to Gwinnett.

Moylan, 36, underwent "Tommy John" surgery on his right elbow in March 2014 and missed the entire 2014 season. After being released by the Houston Astros on March 26, 2014, he signed a minor league contract with the Atlanta Braves on March 5, 2015.

The side-arming right-hander has not pitched since the 2013 season, when he went 1-0 with a 6.46 ERA (11 ER in 15.1 IP) in 14 relief outings with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He also pitched for Triple-A Albuquerque that year, going 4-1 with a 2.74 ERA (14 ER in 46.0 IP) and four saves in 38 appearances.

Born in Lesmurdie, Western Australia, Moylan originally signed with the Braves as a free agent on March 10, 2006. He spent parts of seven Major League seasons with Atlanta, going 20-9 with a 2.59 ERA (75 ER in 260.2 IP) and four saves in 295 relief appearances. During that stretch, he pitched for the Gwinnett Braves in 2011 and 2012, going a combined 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA (8 ER in 18.2 IP) in 18 games, one start.

With the addition of Moylan, the Gwinnett roster stands at 25 active players.

The Gwinnett Braves open a three-game road series against the Norfolk Tides tonight at Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA, first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Chien-Ming Wang (2-4, 4.41 ERA) starts for the G-Braves, while the Tides counter with right-hander Bud Norris (0-1, 30.37 ERA). Tony Schiavone has the play-by-play call on 97.7 FM and WSBRadio.com beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The G-Braves return home on Friday, June 5 for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Durham Bulls. The opener of a six-game homestand is a "Fireworks Friday," featuring a spectacular display following the game. It's also "Paint the Park Purple" night for Relay For Life of Gwinnett.
