WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. (July 3, 2022) – In front of a sold out crowd of 5,406 at Dutchess Stadium, the Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones 6-2 on Sunday night.

T.J. Sikkema was brilliant, turning in the best outing of his young career on Sunday night. The left-hander did not allow a hit in 4.1 innings, striking out eight and issuing no walks. Sikkema set career-highs in innings pitched and strikeouts in the game.

The Renegades broke through in the fourth against Carson Seymour, when Tyler Hardman and Eric Wagaman hit back-to-back home runs to kick off a four-run rally. It was Hardman’s team-leading 11th homer of the season, and was the first time that the Gades have hit back-to-back home runs this season.

The Cyclones got on the board in the top of the fifth, when Jose Peroza touched up Nelvin Correa (1-2) for a solo home run. They added a tally in the sixth off Josue Panacual when Matt Rudick tripled and scored on a groundout to cut the lead to 4-2.

Hudson Valley tacked on two important insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth off Nolan Clenney to extend their advantage to 6-2.

In the top of the ninth, Brooklyn loaded the bases with two outs and brought the tying run to the plate, but Rudick grounded into a game-ending fielder’s choice. Panacual went the final 4.0 innings of the game in long relief to pick up his first career save.

Wagaman and Aldenis Sanchez picked up two hits each, while Sikkema, Correa and Panacual combined to strike out 11 Cyclones batters.

The Renegades are back in action on Monday night as they face the Jersey Shore BlueClaws at ShoreTown Ballpark in Lakewood, N.J. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6:45 on the Renegades Baseball Network. RHP Blane Abeyta (0-6, 6.26) takes the ball for Hudson Valley, opposed by Jersey Shore RHP Matt Russell (2-5, 4.15).
