WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. (August 13, 2022) — The Hudson Valley Renegades used excellent pitching and timely hitting to turn aside the Aberdeen IronBirds 3-1 on Saturday night at Dutchess Stadium. Both of the Renegades run-scoring innings did not feature a hit.

Hudson Valley jumped ahead in the bottom of the first against Aberdeen starter Peter Van Loon. Jasson Domínguez reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second, advanced to third on a balk, and came home on a T.J. Rumfield groundout to give the Renegades a 1-0 lead.

The IronBirds struck back in the top of the sixth against Renegades starter Richard Fitts. Darell Hernaiz launched a solo homer to left to level the score at one.

Fitts dazzled in his High-A debut, firing 6.2 innings, allowing only one run on five hits, striking out seven and walking none.

Situational hitting propelled Hudson Valley back in front in the bottom of the eighth. Aldenis Sanchez and Trey Sweeney walked, and both advanced on a wild pitch. Domínguez and Rumfield lifted consecutive sacrifice flies off Alex Pham (3-2) to give the Renegades a 3-1 lead.

Edgar Barclay (5-2) earned the win in relief, tossing 2.1 perfect innings, striking out five and walking none to slam the door.

Hudson Valley wraps up its six-game series with the Aberdeen IronBirds on Sunday afternoon at Dutchess Stadium. RHP Blane Abeyta (5-7, 4.35) takes the ball for the Renegades, while the IronBirds counter with RHP Daniel Federman (0-2, 3.75).
