HUDSON VALLEY HANGS ON FOR TIGHT WIN

The Hudson Valley Renegades were in desperate need of a win after they were decimated by the Wilmington Blue Rocks 19-6 on Wednesday. Though it was tight, the Renegades were able to squeak out a 3-2 win and avoid tying their longest losing streak of the season.

Scoring was scarce to start the game, which is a testament to how well Randy Vasquez of the Renegades and Mitchell Parker of the Blue Rocks pitched.

Vasquez surrendered two runs in the top of the 4th inning off of an Israel Pineda RBI double where Pablo Olivares played the ball awkwardly, allowing the ball to roll to the wall. J.T. Arruda then singled to the left side to drive in Pineda and extended the Blue Rocks lead to 2-0.

For the Renegades, their time to shine would be the bottom of the 5th, where they exploded for three runs in the blink of an eye. Pat DeMarco's RBI double scored Oliver Dunn to cut the deficit to 2-1. Afterward, a Blue Rock's fielding error allowed Anthony Seigler to reach base while allowing DeMarco to score. Josh Breaux's groundout to shortstop was good enough for Anthony Volpe to score and extend the Renegades lead to 3-2, where it would stay for the remainder of the game.

Vasquez's performance was dazzling, as he struck out nine, allowed two runs and seven hits in 5.2 innings.

Nelson Alvarez came in relief for Vasquez, and he helped shut down the Blue Rocks in his 3.1 innings of service, where he allowed three hits and no runs.

The two teams will meet again on Friday at 7:05.
