Lakewood, N.J. (Aug. 3, 2022) – Early offense and dominating pitching guided the Hudson Valley Renegades to a 7-2 win over the Jersey Shore BlueClaws on Wednesday afternoon at ShoreTown Ballpark.

In his second appearance as part of his Minor League rehab assignment, Shawn Semple turned in a stellar outing. He tossed 5.0 shutout innings, scattering three hits while striking out five and not allowing a walk. Semple (1-0) did not allow a runner past second base or have a single three-ball count.

James Nelson gave the Renegades the lead in the top of the second with a solo home run to left off Rafael Marcano. The blast was Nelson’s second homer of the season, and his first since May 21 at Brooklyn.

The Renegades tacked on three more runs in the top of fourth against Marcano (0-3). Carlos Narvaez lined a two-run double to right and scored on an Aldenis Sanchez single to grow the lead to 4-0. Sanchez finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.

That was more than enough for Semple and Edgar Barclay, who fired 3.0 scoreless innings of relief. At one point, the two pitchers combined to retire 13 consecutive Jersey Shore batsmen.

Hudson Valley added a run in the fifth on an Eric Wagaman RBI single, and two more in the seventh on a Wagaman double and Henson single. That was part of a big day at the plate for Wagaman, who finished 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.

Kevin Milam allowed a two-run home run to Herbert Iser in the bottom of the ninth to narrow the lead to 7-2, but escaped without further damage to finish off the win.

The victory was the Renegades 10th straight against the BlueClaws, and their 11th in the last 12 meetings between the clubs.

The Renegades continue their series with the BlueClaws on Thursday night at ShoreTown Ballpark. RHP Blas Castaño (3-7, 3.62) gets the start for Hudson Valley, while Jersey Shore counters with RHP Kyle Glogoski (0-3, 2.48). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with pregame coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network starting at 6:45.
