DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Cubs (19-12) ended their three-game losing streak with a 6-1 victory over the Toledo Mud Hens (18-15), Tuesday at Principal Park.

Neither team scored in the first two innings, as Kyle Hendricks shut down the Mud Hens in his third start on major league rehab. Iowa got on the board in the third, scoring a run on an RBI double from Darius Hill.

They padded their lead with three runs in the fourth inning, scoring on singles from David Bote and Jake Slaughter. Another two-run single from Jared Young in the fifth gave Iowa a 6-0 lead.

Hendricks cruised through his five innings, allowing just two hits while striking out four. The righty threw 41 of his 61 pitches for strikes.

Toledo got on the board in the eighth on an RBI single from Justyn-Henry Malloy, but Anthony Kay threw a scoreless ninth inning to secure the victory.

POSTGAME NOTES:

  • Kyle Hendricks spun 5.0 scoreless innings tonight, allowing just two hits while striking out four. It marked his longest start since June 30, 2022, when he threw 6.0 innings with Chicago.
  • Codi Heuer made his second appearance on major league rehab tonight, walking one and striking out two in his 0.2 innings pitched.
  • Eight of Iowa’s nine starters recorded a hit tonight, with their top two hitters combining to go 4-for-8 with a double, a walk and three runs batted in.
