Baby Cakes Rain on Bettis' Strong Start

August 9, 2017

Isotopes (57-59) starter Chad Bettis pitched well, but the New Orleans Baby Cakes (45-70) pounced on the Albuquerque bullpen to secure a 9-0 win. The weather did not help the Isotopes either as the game was delayed twice, once pre-game and once during the 6th inning.

The start was Bettis' best of the season as the right-hander allowed just one run over his rain-shortened 5.0 innings on the hill. Bettis came out to start the sixth, but the umpires decided to delay the game, forcing the righty from the ball game. Bettis allowed just three hits and walked none.
After Bettis exited the game, Isotopes relievers Jerry Vasto, Jairo Díaz and Sam Moll combined to surrender eight runs over the contest's final three innings.
The New Orleans pitching staff held the Isotopes offense to just two hits, the second-fewest Albuquerque has recorded on the season.
The Isotopes and Baby Cakes continue their four-game series Wednesday evening from New Orleans. Southpaw Sam Howard (4-2, 3.98) will get the start for the Isotopes. First pitch from Shrine on the Airline is set for 6:00 p.m.
