Battenfield captures SAL Pitcher of the Week

KANNAPOLIS, NC - The Kannapolis Intimidators are pleased to announce that RHP Blake Battenfield has been named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for May 7-13.
The award comes to Battenfield after the former Oklahoma State Cowboy hurled 8.0 innings of three-hit ball, while striking out a season-high 10 batters on just 82 pitches without issuing a walk against the Greenville Drive.
After the career day for Battenfield, the 6-foot-3 righty lowered his already stellar ERA to a 1.34 (4^th among SAL starters), while also lowering his WHIP to 0.71, which leads the SAL. After his first double-digit strikeout day of the season, Battenfield now supports an 8.5 (34 strikeouts and 4 walks) strikeout-to-walk ratio. The Oklahoma State alumnas is second in the SAL in opponent's batting average with a .165, while also allowing only 6.68 runners on base per nine innings, the fewest in the SAL.
With his third win of the season, Battenfield is now 3-1 on the season through seven starts, refusing to give up more than five hits an any of his starts.
This is the 23-year-old's first season with the Intimidators after spending the 2017 season in the Pioneer League with the Chicago White Sox's Great Falls Voyagers as a relieve pitcher, appearing in 21 games.
