Kannapolis Drops First Game of Series in Hickory
HICKORY, N.C. - The Kannapolis Intimidators (13-12, 41-52) played the first game of the three-game road series against the Hickory Crawdads (16-8, 57-33) Monday and dropped it 8-1, giving up too many long balls to the Hickory offense.
It didn't take long for Hickory to get on the board. In the bottom of first inning, Sherten Apostel hit a solo home run (14) to right field to take a 1-0 lead.
The home run derby for the Crawdads continued into the third. Apostel hit another home run (15), this time scoring Pedro Gonzalez. Tyreque Reed then hit a solo home run (6) in the same inning to extend the lead to 4-0.
Kannapolis managed to get their only run of the game in the top of the fourth on a wild pitch that scored Ramon Beltre to make things 4-1.
Hickory immediately answered in the bottom of the frame. Jonathan Ornelas singled on a line drive and scored Frainyer Chavez to put the lead back to four runs at 5-1.
After getting one more out in the bottom of the fifth, Sam Long's (W, 4-3) day came to an end. He threw 4.2 innings, giving up four hits, five earned runs, and of both walks and strikeouts. Devon Perez came in relief.
Perez threw a wild pitch when he came in and Gonzalez scored. After that, Miguel Aparicio homered (8) and scored Melin Novoa to extend the lead to 8-1.
After 2.2 innings on the bump for Perez, giving up two earned, Austin Conway came in to finish out the game on the mound for the Intimidators.
Kannapolis will continue their series with Hickory on Tuesday Night at 7:00 p.m. Davis Martin (5-8, 6.08 ERA) will be the starter for the Intimidators.
