MEMPHIS, Tennessee - Oscar Mercado was 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored, and three RBI, and Luke Voit, Randy Arozarena, and Jeremy Martinez all had two hits apiece in a 7-2 Memphis Redbirds (28-19) win over the Oklahoma City Dodgers (Dodgers) Wednesday night at AutoZone Park.
To go along with the offense, Kevin Herget allowed just one run on four hits in 6.0 innings to pick up the win. He struck out six and walked one. His only blemish was a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning.
The Redbirds opened the scoring right away in the first inning with a three-spot, after the first four hitters reached base on three singles and a walk. Wilfredo Tovar had a sacrifice fly and Arozarena an RBI knock, and Memphis did not look back after that.
After Oklahoma City's run made it 3-1 after five-and-a-half, Memphis plated two more in the sixth with Herget doubling and scoring on Mercado's two-run home run, his sixth of the season.
During his outing, Herget retired seven-straight at one point, including five-in-a-row via strikeout.
Hector Mendoza tossed 2.0 solid innings in relief of Herget, and Arturo Reyes finished the game and allowed a run in the ninth.
After going 3-for-17 with runners in scoring position in a 10-3 loss yesterday, Memphis was 5-for-10 with runners in scoring position Wednesday night.
